Pro Palestine Protestors Occupy Trump Tower
A couple hundred pro Palestine protestors inconspicuously walked into Trump Tower this morning. The protestors gathered downstairs near the “Trump Grill.”
As people milled about, a clueless NYPD officer asked “Why so many people? What’s happening?” Moment later, protestors took off their jackets to reveal red shirts that say “Stop Arming Israel” and “Not In Our Name.” They unfurled banners that said “Fight Nazis Not Students” and “Jews Say Do Not Comply.”
The protestors chanted in support of Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia student protest organizer and legal permanent resident who was arrested last week. The Trump administration has said it plans to deport Khalil for his pro-Palestine advocacy.
As of 12:15pm, about a dozen NYPD offers are observing the protest. An NYPD officer informed the crowd that if they stay inside Trump Tower they will be arrested for trespassing.
Update 1:47 PM: Police arrested about 100 protestors who remained inside Trump Tower. They were loaded onto an NYPD and MTA bus.
