Kimbal Musk, little brother of Elon, recently traveled to the United Arab Emirates to sign a deal for his drone light show company. Such are the perks of your older brother being one of the President's closest allies.

In a photo op that would make Hunter Biden blush, Kimbal met with Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. The oil-rich UAE has been criticized for being a surveillance state and for various human rights abuses. It is an important military and technology partner of the United States.

The deal is a classic example of how the UAE gains influence in the United States, says Ben Freeman, Director of the Democratizing Foreign Policy Program at the Quincy Institute.

“This is, I think, the epitome of at least one of the ways in which the UAE tries to garner influence,” Freeman told William Turton Blog. “There's always an ulterior motive and that's to get people to say very nice things about the UAE and look the other way whenever the UAE does anything really bad.”

Freeman noted that the Trump administration has gutted corruption laws that may address this sort of meeting.

Kimbal Musk has previously tweeted about how he “hates[s] Trump to the bottom of my soul.” Judging by his Twitter history, it seems his position has softened.
